You may know our dog Lux, she is currently celebrating another year older. We love giving our dogs, and dogs that stay with us, a great birthday! Is it your dog’s birthday soon? Then why not celebrate the big day! After all, why shouldn’t we celebrate our dog’s birthdays? They’re not here forever so let’s treasure the time we have together.  We’ve compiled 3 ways to give your dog the best day ever.

1. Bake a cake!

Unfortunately, veterinarians and dog food experts all agree that serving your dog a big slab of cake fit for humans isn’t the best thing for your dog (and can actually be quite harmful to their health). However, we know a recipe that is the next best thing to human cake and is completely safe for them to devour. Our dog Pip tells us it tastes amazing, is full of the good stuff but most importantly it was safe for her to eat. Here is the recipe:

  • 1 egg
  • 65g peanut butter
  • 60ml vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 80g honey
  • 135g grated carrots
  • 120g wholemeal flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Prep:20min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Ready in:1hr

  1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease a ring cake tin or medium square tin.
  2. Combine the egg, peanut butter, oil, vanilla, and honey, if desired, in a large bowl; blend well.
  3. Stir in the carrots and mix thoroughly.
  4. Sift together the flour and bicarb and fold into the carrot mixture.
  5. Spoon cake mixture into prepared tin.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes.
  7. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes; then turn out onto a cooling rack to cool completely.

2. Arrange a party

Arrange to meet your friends on the field with their dogs for a couple of hours and let them all play together. A good couple hours of play will be great stimulation for your dog and will make them very content indeed. We recommend avoiding fireworks, anything that bangs or make loud noises but feel free to bring along some music for the dogs to groove to.

3. Make sure they look the part

When you’re going to a party, you want to look your best and guess what, so does your dog! Why not treat them to a groom so they can impress their canine friends by looking, smelling and feeling fantastic!
